This morning, in the very place where you sit, the God who made you, who knows you and what makes you tick, the God who loves you and wants you more than he’s currently got you right now. That God wants to shape you, and renew you, and refresh you, and spend time with you, and the way he might deepen that relationship with us is through prayer. Now is the time to pray. Now I know what you’re thinking, “Yes, of course, it’s the pastor who is telling us to pray, and how could you argue with him?” So why now?

If you are new here with us, I want to tell you that right now, there are a lot of exciting things happening in our community, very good things that will profoundly impact our future together. But these things have caused me to be very anxious lately. Has anyone ever been anxious about something? What I noticed over the last few weeks is that I spent a lot of time walking around, whether it was at home or here at the office or out and about, and I found myself talking out loud to myself, a lot. Has anyone ever done this?

I was so filled with worry that there were times when I would literally hear myself audibly saying things like, “How are you going to do this, Jonathan? This could fall on its face, Jonathan. I hope you know what you’re doing.” Has anyone ever done something like this? What I realized was happening was that I was praying, but when I shared this with a very wise person, they said, “Perhaps you’re talking to the wrong person.”
